Wanita Muda Mangsa Jangkitan H1N1

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 Mac (Bernama) - Seorang wanita berusia 22 tahun mati Ahad lepas di Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), Kubang Kerian kerana jangkitan berhubung Influenza A (H1N1).

Woman Latest H1N1 Death

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) - A 22-year-old woman died of H1N1-related illness at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), Kubang Kerian, on Sunday.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today the woman was admitted to the hospital on Feb 15 after having fever and cough for eight days.

She was treated at a private clinic and referred to the hospital the same day.

She was confirmed to be infected with Influenza A (H1N1) on Feb 16 and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering lung complications the following day, Lion said in a statement.

She died two weeks later and the cause of death was recorded as septicaemic shock with acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to H1N1 infection.

Prior to this, the H1N1 death toll was 77.

Liow said although the H1N1 infection in this case was said to be secondary, it showed that although the spread of the disease was low, it could cause death if not treated early.

"Although not many H1N1 deaths occur now, the Health Ministry wants to stress that the disease is still active in
Malaysia and hopes that the society will continue to adopt preventive measures to contain the disease," he said.
