Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 4

Maisarah Shah: What are the obstruction and boundaries faced by them in producing TV news programmes?

Zubli Zainordin: Basically the boundaries have been set. We are within the academic community worldwide and nationwide, are pretty informed about philosophy, laws, ethic, principles, rules, logic, and common sense.

However, within the industry, TV stations follow certain guides and procedures.

The Editorials are at ease and we are glad to know on a daily basis, there are no police reports lodge, and no individual or the media being summoned to court.

However, more apparently after the 12th General Election, we are witnessing the increase in the numbers of police reports, summons, memorandum submission to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission, Suhakam, and more.

Perhaps, to keep a motive intact, some individuals within the industry including the News Desk, have gone over-board, breaching the confine of such noble boundaries.

Pertaining to obstructions, I do not see RTM 1 or TV3 facing any external obstruction. What is internal is beyond me.

Nevertheless, if there is such an obstruction in Malaysia, we know that certain media have been obstructed from publishing.

Examples include Suara Keadilan, and Harakah Daily, where copies have been confiscated.

The Christian Herald, is another given stern warning for publishing "Kalimah Allah".

Apart from these, we have heard Bloggers being harassed. Raja Petra Kamaruddin is one. Aduka Teruna, and a few more.

As for RTM 1 and TV3, so far no such obstructions.
