Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 3

Mahirah Shah: Based on high TV rating influence, what are the criteria for news selection in the newsroom that should be air?

Zubli Zainordin: The criteria of news selection in the newsroom that should be aired, based on high TV rating influence, begins with an understanding of what TV viewers are watching for.

Viewers of RTM 1, normally prefer to know what the government activities are, especially the ministries are doing that benefit them and the areas of their locality.

Viewers of TV3, normally prefer to know what are new that can informatively be news of the day.

Like other TV stations, news selection at both RTM 1 and TV3, shall be geared toward serving the viewers as top priority.

Nevertheless this is not always so.

Even though the Editorials know what the audience wants, the criteria for news selection are open to the dictates of the power that be.

As for RTM 1, the political masters.

As for TV3, sponsors and advertisers, the usual potentates.

Other criteria include what is the main event of the day, leadership, issues, and more. The listing of line-up is based on priorities of what are important and urgent.
