Maisarah Shah: In what kind of approach and to what extend does both TV network make in order to achieve the clarity and newsworthiness in news presenting.
Zubli Zainordin: With regards to news presenting, TV stations provide training to reporters so that this kind of approach will move them to the furthest extend in order to achieve news clarity.
In addition, the Editorial do checking for news clarity purposes.
In terms of facts there is a practice of confirming with the source or relevant authorities.
I am sure RTM 1 and TV3 do all of the above.
However, there is a parting difference in terms of newsworthiness. As a privately owned TV station TV3 will go for scoops considering the competition this station pursues against rivals. While RTM 1 will proceed with exclusivity, since this station enjoys about an equal privilege as do BERNAMA.

Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 5
Mahirah Shah: Is there any specific duration given to reporters to finish news and if there are, what is the usual duration given?
Zubli Zainordin: Yes. Most definitely each reporter is given a duration to complete an assigned news task.
Surely this is the practice for both RTM 1 and TV3.
There are shifts for reporters in general. It is easier to categorize this into before and after the news airing.
Early mornings some reporters are already in the field. Shifts follow at noon and early evening. Perhaps, on time as in dateline or deadline, an hour before the reader of presenter greets the viewers.
When so, a reporter can give leads for non-vt news, or go live as stand-upper.
Else, reporters covering news after the airtime shall submit early the next day.

Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 4
Maisarah Shah: What are the obstruction and boundaries faced by them in producing TV news programmes?
Zubli Zainordin: Basically the boundaries have been set. We are within the academic community worldwide and nationwide, are pretty informed about philosophy, laws, ethic, principles, rules, logic, and common sense.
However, within the industry, TV stations follow certain guides and procedures.
The Editorials are at ease and we are glad to know on a daily basis, there are no police reports lodge, and no individual or the media being summoned to court.
However, more apparently after the 12th General Election, we are witnessing the increase in the numbers of police reports, summons, memorandum submission to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission, Suhakam, and more.
Perhaps, to keep a motive intact, some individuals within the industry including the News Desk, have gone over-board, breaching the confine of such noble boundaries.
Pertaining to obstructions, I do not see RTM 1 or TV3 facing any external obstruction. What is internal is beyond me.
Nevertheless, if there is such an obstruction in Malaysia, we know that certain media have been obstructed from publishing.
Examples include Suara Keadilan, and Harakah Daily, where copies have been confiscated.
The Christian Herald, is another given stern warning for publishing "Kalimah Allah".
Apart from these, we have heard Bloggers being harassed. Raja Petra Kamaruddin is one. Aduka Teruna, and a few more.
As for RTM 1 and TV3, so far no such obstructions.

Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 3
Mahirah Shah: Based on high TV rating influence, what are the criteria for news selection in the newsroom that should be air?
Zubli Zainordin: The criteria of news selection in the newsroom that should be aired, based on high TV rating influence, begins with an understanding of what TV viewers are watching for.
Viewers of RTM 1, normally prefer to know what the government activities are, especially the ministries are doing that benefit them and the areas of their locality.
Viewers of TV3, normally prefer to know what are new that can informatively be news of the day.
Like other TV stations, news selection at both RTM 1 and TV3, shall be geared toward serving the viewers as top priority.
Nevertheless this is not always so.
Even though the Editorials know what the audience wants, the criteria for news selection are open to the dictates of the power that be.
As for RTM 1, the political masters.
As for TV3, sponsors and advertisers, the usual potentates.
Other criteria include what is the main event of the day, leadership, issues, and more. The listing of line-up is based on priorities of what are important and urgent.

Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 2
Mahirah Shah: Based on the breaking news highlighted, is there any effect on the ratings of the viewer on the TV network.
Zubli Zainordin: Yes. Even though ratings for both RTM 1 and TV3 are on the decrease, there are loyalists.
These loyalists make-up a large portion of the ratings pie.
Surely the breaking news highlighted has effects on the ratings of viewers for both RTM 1 and TV3.
Credit shall be given to RTM 1 because of the well-being of this station having huge huwmen-power, machinery, and money.
While credit is also given to TV3 for this station's wisdom in obtaining news from official as well as independent stringers.
Thus, the ample news coverage in terms of quality as well as quantity, presented as the breaking news highlighted, which has effects on the ratings of viewers for these TV stations.

Academic View Of TV News Mahirah Shah Interviews Zubli Zainordin Part 1
Zubli Zainordin: Credibility, and specifically News Credibility belongs to the audience. For this purpose, TV viewers acknowledge as to whether the news credibility, presented by the station, is so or otherwise.
To me the determinant is not what the station claims, or the breaking news highlighted, but what the viewers acknowledges in terms of accuracy, fairness, and other news virtues.
From an academic standpoint, observing from outside the news premises, the news credibility of both Buletin Utama (TV3), and Berita Jam 8 (RTM 1), has been questionable by the viewing audience.
As RTM 1 is under the relevant Ministry, the station has remained the voice-piece of the ruling government. Thus, one-sided since.
The emergence of TV3, provided an alternative to RTM 1, as the news source. Although to a certain extend TV3 is pro-government, however there is room for this station to be different in news contents selection. A good example is the award-winning reporter, Karim Singh Walia, who is quite famous in exposing inefficient authorities related to the public environmental concerns.
I remember once, the STMB Chief, did mentioned that the Minister is said to be a Minister of RTM rather than Minister of Information.
So, the TV viewers has long considered RTM 1 as not credible. More tuned in to TV3 for news that provides more gratifications.
History repeats itself. What happened to RTM, happened to TV3 with the emergence of the new alternative media via the Internet.
As ratings decreases for RTM long ago, TV3 is experiencing the same since the 12th General Election.
We see within the viewing audience, several calls to boycott TV3. One of the reasons, they consider this station not credible, especially fairness in news coverage.
